WELCOME FR. RON VERHAEGHE
Father Ron Verhaeghe comes to Holy Spirit after spending the last 7 and a half years as
the Pastor of St. Mary’s in Independence.  He says it’s been wonderful at St. Mary’s but
he’s not sad to be leaving because you don’t leave that family, you bring it with you, as
those years and those people have helped make him who he is and will be as a Pastor
at Holy Spirit.  He is excited to come to Holy Spirit.  It is the youngest Parish he’s ever
been assigned to, but similar in some ways to both St. Thomas Moore and St. Mark’s,
and it will be fun to work with all the young families.  Father Ron says we gather
together at Church but the real growth happens in our homes. It is exciting to watch
families grow through the years and that is why he is looking forward to working in our
parish full of young families.  He looks forward to working together, with a lot of help,
and teaching, living, and celebrating.

He grew up in north St. Louis County, Missouri, in the Riverview Gardens School
District, overlooking the bluffs of the Mississippi River.  His parents have since retired
and currently live in Warrenton, MO.  He has two deceased brothers, one brother who is
a police officer, one sister who is a midwife living in Hawaii, and another sister who
teaches at a junior college in St. Louis.  All of his siblings are married and Katie, the one
in Hawaii, is a mother of seven and grandmother of three.  Father Ron has particularly
enjoyed watching his sister raise those seven children, marveling at the changes both in
the kids and in his sister’s parenting methods over the years.

Father Ron was ordained on June 6, 1992 after graduating from University of Saint
Mary of the Lake, also known as Mundelein Seminary, outside of Chicago.  He worked
as associate pastor at St. Thomas Moore and St. Marks.  His assignment immediately
prior to St. Mary’s was to Carondelet Heath Care System that staffed St. Joseph
Hospital & Saint Mary’s hospital in Blue Springs where he worked in the areas of
chaplaincy, medical ethics, and hospice care.

Welcome to our Parish family, Father Ron!
